What is Open Pool?

Open Pool helps you prepare for the Technician, General, and Amateur Extra exams with practice exams in the real format, topic drills, flashcards, a missed-questions list, saved questions, and the official NCVEC figures. Questions are the public-domain question pools published by the NCVEC Question Pool Committee. Open Pool is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the FCC, NCVEC, ARRL, or any VEC.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which question pools are included?

Technician 2026-2030, General 2023-2027, and Amateur Extra 2024-2028. Each pool is used for exams through June 30 of its final year.

How are practice exams built?

Each practice exam takes one question from every group in the pool, like the real exam: 35 questions with 26 needed to pass for Technician and General, and 50 questions with 37 needed to pass for Amateur Extra.

How does the missed-questions list work?

Any question you answer incorrectly is added to the Missed list for that exam. It stays there until you answer it correctly.

Where is my progress stored?

Only on your iPhone. There is no account and nothing is sent to the developer. Deleting the app deletes your progress.
