Frequently Asked Questions

Does VaultMask upload my documents or require an internet connection?

No. VaultMask operates 100% offline on your iPhone. All PDF parsing, camera document scanning, optical character recognition (OCR), PII detection, PDF rasterization, and leak verification run locally on your device. No data is collected or transmitted. See our Privacy Policy.

How do I redact a PDF or paper document?

On the Home screen, tap Open PDF, Scan, or Try a sample. VaultMask automatically detects sensitive items and queues high-confidence findings to hide. Tap Check items to review uncertain items with Keep or Hide, use the top-right menu for Find & redact or Draw a box, and tap Export to generate a verified 200 DPI rasterized PDF with no hidden text layer or metadata.

How is the exported PDF verified?

Before you share or save, VaultMask runs a built-in 7-check output verifier on the exported PDF (checking PDF structure, stripped metadata, absence of any text layer, solid black pixel fill under every redaction box, and an independent OCR re-scan on redacted regions) and displays Checked · 0 leaks.

What is Masked text for AI?

In the Export sheet, switch to Masked text for AI to export Markdown or plain text where detected names, SSNs, emails, and IDs are replaced with consistent placeholders such as [PERSON_1] and [SSN_1] before you paste text into an external AI tool.

What is VaultMask Pro and how do I restore my purchase?

VaultMask Pro is an optional one-time purchase ($19.99, no subscription) processed by Apple via StoreKit 2. It unlocks batch folder redaction, persistent encrypted vaults with Paste & Unmask, Bates numbering and legal exemption codes, and SHA-256 JSON audit logs. To restore a previous purchase on an iPhone signed in to the same Apple Account, open Settings & About (gear icon on Home) and tap Restore Purchases.

How do I delete all local VaultMask data?

Open Settings & About on the Home screen and tap Delete All VaultMask Data… to permanently erase all local vaults, Keychain keys, and temporary files, or uninstall the app.
